Local Reporting and Its Significance

Local news is often undervalued in the world. Sometimes seen as just a stepping stone in a journalists path to move ahead to larger publications, local news is actually an important part of any community. They report the nuances of there towns' or cities', recording history as it happens. To get a better understanding of what it means to run one of these small publications I looked towards the Coastal Star, a newspaper whose circulation only spans from Palm Beach to Boca Raton. 

Starting From Square One With “Square One”

In this story, I cover the "Square One Plan" that is run out of the Mandel Public Library in Downtown West Palm Beach. Square One was developed as a means to aid adults who only have, or do not have, a high school education. In writing for this story I interviewed one of the two original creators of this plan and also one of the mentors that is helping to foster the growth of knowledge in these fine people.

Seventh Annual Brazilian Beat Fest Lures Nationals and Spectators Alike

In this story, I covered the seventh annual Brazillian Beat Fest In Boca Raton, Florida. During this event, I witnessed the power of multiculturalism and the kinship that it fosters.
