In March of 2023, I documented the final leg of a 40-mile march that was put on by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. For five days, farm workers, volunteers and supporters of CIW, marched from Pahokee to the Palm Beach Island in a move to highlight the importance of the Fair Food Program, a partnership between growers, farmworkers, and food company buyers to improve conditions for farmworkers. Many companies have signed onto the program including McDonalds, Burger King and Whole Foods. However, some holdouts still persist. Chief among them being the supermarket chain Publix and the fast-food giant Wendy's, helmed by CEO Nelson Peltz who resides in Palm Beach.
